Origins and development

Philippshöhe opened in 2006 as the first RuheForst in North Rhine-Westphalia. It lies at about 240 metres elevation within a surrounding woodland of approximately 57 hectares. That woodland area is not the same as the area used for burials. Burial places are called RuheBiotope.

Origins: Opened in 2006. The cemetery is in Hagen-Kuhlerkamp, Philippshöhe, at Kuhlestraße, 58089 Hagen. No area figure is included for RuheForst Hagen-Philippshöhe.

Design and present-day character

Only urn burials take place here, in the root areas of trees. The natural deciduous woodland with mature oaks, beeches and sycamores is part of the burial setting; conventional planted graves and headstones are not provided.

Read this character description together with the development of RuheForst Hagen-Philippshöhe: it identifies what gives the grounds their present identity without turning the cemetery into a purely historical attraction. A visit can focus on spatial structure and named orientation points while leaving individual graves undisturbed.

Connect the account with the grounds
